WHILE ROAMING IN HALIFAX

I mentioned to my husband that I have been missing the city vibe. I was used to the busy streets of Manila and although I don't miss the heavy traffic and the pollution, I just find myself longing for that 'action' that a bustling city brings. Living in a big city versus a small one has its pros and cons and choosing on where to settle down depends on where you are in life and with the opportunities for you as well. My husband never likes the city life. He hates heavy traffic, the pollution and too much people. He loves a city where commuting from your house to work takes 5 minutes, where there are less people and has a cleaner area. I love that too. I love the fact that our where we are has the amenities of a bustling city yet not as crowded. I do, however, miss the city vibe and our trip to Halifax was a perfect fix. 

The drive was around 2.30 to 3 hours. We reached Halifax at noon and were quite surprised that there was no traffic at that time on a Friday. I got giddy the moment I saw the tall buildings and as soon as the cars started to pile up. I am so proud of Jesse for picking the perfect hotel which was right smack in the downtown area. I love the fact that you can just step out of the hotel and roam the city right away! No need to worry about driving (which he didn't want to do there) or taking the bus. 

We went to the waterfront which has full of tourists doing the same thing as we do.

While exploring, Jesse kept on telling me about this 'store' that seemed to have moved. He didn't want to tell me what kind of store it was but we eventually found it! It was this candy store called Freak Lunchbox. 

I was excited to eat in a proper Japanese restaurant and have ramen (finally!) but alas, there wasn't any. We, however, found a really good sushi place called Suzuki Sushi. It's this gem that's tucked away in an alley. We were not sure where to eat and just decided on the last minute and it didn't disappoint. We left the restaurant with our belly full ready to take over the streets again.

The following day we went to the Farmer's Market. I must say Google Maps in our phone helped a lot in navigating us within the city, without it we would've been lost a lot of times.

awesome weekend

Here are some pictures from last weekend. It was such a nice day! and by nice I mean the sun was shining but I could still feel the breeze. Thanks to my sister in law for giving me her hat. speaking of the hat, I am not really a hat person but when i tried it on i told myself, "it's not that bad. in fact, i think it looks nice". so off i went wearing the hat. I think i might even wear it more often now. 

To camping we will go...

This weekend we went on my first camping trip here. I was so excited because the last time my husband and I went camping was when he first visited me in the Philippines. The weather was in the 30 ++ degrees and everyone complained but still had so much fun. We set up the tents (or at least the men did) and ate and drink and chatted. I'd have to say my new favorite drink would be apple juice plus coconut rum!

Too bad we weren't allowed to build a fire for safety reasons so we weren't able to roast hotdogs and marshmallows for smores.

It's early in the morning...

and I am writing a blog post... hurray!!!

It is 1:46 in the morning, to be exact. Tried sleeping but my mind just kept wandering and I ended up in front of the computer. I figured this is a good time to do a blog post because (1) I haven't had an update in the past days and (2) i find that i work better under a quieter environment.

Well look what we have here. I got this one shoulder top at Joe Fresh (I love that store) for under $5! Even though it's black, it's still perfect for the summer for me. I can either dress it up or down. 

Most of the time when I write a post I end up having a brain fart. I don't know what to say, what to share, what to write about. Maybe I am just not as gifted as some people when it comes to writing - but hey, does  getting a "Best in Journalism" award count? So yeah, I feel like I am too conscious on whether I am sharing too much already and I end up filtering a lot of things. The solution? Well I am not sure yet. Maybe I shouldn't over think, as I most of the time do. Like what I am doing now - just letting all the thoughts flow from my mind to my fingers typing every word. 

So yeah, back to summer. I am glad to be experiencing 30 degree weather these days. Reminds me a lot of the Philippines. You that it's warm but not that warm type of day? I love it. My husband, however, doesn't like the heat. I am still amazed at how he survived one month of heat in the Philippines. I guess that's what love can do.

Oh Canada!

Today is Canada Day. 

My first time ever to celebrate it. 

It's not as famous as the US' 4th of July but it's something that Canadians take very much into heart. I am in awe that despite the fact that Canada is a huge country, the country has managed to instill and maintain nationalism among its people. 

There are a number of activities prepared in our area. Regrettably, we won't be able to attend because we have to work today. We can, however, still celebrate in spirit, right?
