Saturday Inspirations

photos from style.com

Just some of my inspirations from this pre-fall collection (Balenciaga, Acne, Philip Lim, Stella McCartney, Celine)

Baby it's cold outside

this week has been VERY (times 10?) cold here and I am not exaggerating coming from a girl who has lived most of her life in a tropical country. my husband is complaining as well and that is something. this week the temperature decided to stay along -26 to -25 C so i dared not risk of getting frostbite except for a quick trip to the grocery or to joe fresh (i loooove joe fresh! but that's for another post i guess). needless to say, i don't have proper outfit posts to show here as i am mostly in my pjs and lounging around the house.

oh the joys of staying at home!

Since we have a lot of time in our hand...

once my husband has found how to create wooden sprites, he couldn't wait to get started. after the pre-cut woods we ordered from Maine have arrived, we started working on them. I love the painting part while he loves putting the blocks together more. after a few nights, here's the result! i must say it feels so good to see it once it's done, there's some kind of fulfillment. since we don't have a decent sign outside our door, i decided to make one. thus, the dragonfly.

one more day and it's Friday! hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Red Coat

Remember that red coat that I said I got from the thrift store? Well here it is! I am happy to say that it is very warm and not to mention chic. Long and oversized coats are very visible in the recent Celine and Stella McCartney pre-fall collection so having one in less than a quarter of the price (maybe even less) makes this cheapster girl happy!

Long Coat

I scored a nice long red coat during my thrift shopping adventure last Sunday. I love the color, I love the fit, I love everything about it! Except for one thing - I haven't worn a long coat in my entire life. I am not talking about the coat that reaches your knee, what I have reaches to half of my calves, almost to the ankle. So see, it's long. For 10 bux, I bought it anyway, or should I say, my mother in law bought it for me. :) She said I look good in it and I took her word for it.

When I got home, I was thinking of taking to a tailor and cutting a few inches off of it just so it's not that long.  However, hearing that it's going to be 45-50 bux plus tax, I say, 'no way, jose'.  I told myself, I'm gonna rock this coat! So I spent the night and the next couple of days retrying the coat and searching for pegs in pinterest. I also adjusted the buttons at the back so it looks slimmer and I won't look like I've been swallowed by a giant red coat. I wore mah new coat yesterday to go to the nearest grocery store and it's super warm and chic (100% wool baby!). Hope to share some pics in the next posts.

I found a lot of inspiration in pinterest and here they are:

worn over a maxi dress or skirt or a short dress/ skirt

over pants

moral of the story? don't be intimidated by something out of your comfort zone. try new things and rock them! long coats are classic and chic!

Denim on Denim

wore this to a movie date with my husband and my mother in law. watched Les Miserables and i would say it is very good! there were some dragging parts (it's 2.5 hours!) but overall, it's very good. i just knew bits and pieces about the story and some of the famous songs so this is the first time that i watched the entire story. while my husband is disappointed that wolverine and the gladiator was there and there wasn't a single fight scene, i say anne hathaway is gorgeous!

hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
